Symbian Foundation
Wednesday, 25 June 2008
It looks like Nokia has plans to buy all shares of the Symbian OS and intends to open source it over the coming two years through the new Symbian Foundation. Symbian is currently the most used smartphone OS. Nokia does this after acquiring Trolltech which also offers an open source version of its OS QTopia. Some may see this as a move by Nokia to prepare a competing platform to Android which is controlled by Google.
