An Openmokast player application is now available on the Android Market. The application is not a full featured DAB receiver but is a client that can connect to an Openmokast application that is running from another computer. Android was used as another proof of concept for broadcasting application over smart phone type of devices. The following graphic shows the architecture of the Android player: A wifi link is used between the Linux computer running Openmokast with the actual hardware receiver and the Android device. The available application decoders for this first version are:
Openmokast on Android uses open source CELT and MOT-Slideshow decoding libraries that were integrated in the Android application using the newly released Android NDK (Native Development Kit). The services are then presented to the user with the help of the Android Media Framework, which can handle multiple types of audio and visual media.
Openmokast is shown on the right running on an T-Mobile G1 Android phone. Anyone can try the application by following this simple procedure: 1. Install the Openmokast Linux application from the source or the binaries that are available from the download page. 2. Generate a test ETI stream containing an MOT-Slideshow service using our mmbTools website. A CELT audio online encoder will also be available in a near future. 3. The resulting ETI file will be compatible with the Openmokast Linux application installed at step 1. Simply open the file in Openmokast and the server is ready to be used from an Android device. 4. Install the Openmokast application on your Android phone by searching in the Android Market or by scanning this QR code with a compatible code scanner. 5. Start the newly installed Android application and configure the IP address of the Openmokast server by clicking on "Menu" and "Openmokast preferences". 6. Click on "Refresh" in the main Openmokast Android screen to see the available services. 7. Finally, you can press the "Play MOT-SS" key to start the slideshow on your Android device.
